Your money is no good here: loyalty is currency at new pop up, Karangahape Returns.
Receipts from money spent on K Road will become cold hard currency in the world’s first loyalty scheme for a neighbourhood.
The Karangahape Returns store invites visitors to trade in fistfuls of crinkled up receipts for a curated selection of priceless artefacts from the Karangahape’s past, present, and imagined future.
From Thursday September 11 at 490 Karangahape Road until Saturday September 20, shoppers will find items money can’t buy anywhere else.
Amongst the curio on offer will be Vegas Girl key rings for just 3 receipts, a 1000 piece Mercury Plaza memorial puzzle for 33 receipts, and a ‘KRO4D’ number plate for 200 receipts.
The 17 items on offer reflect the rich cultural heritage of the strip, with original prints from photographer Fiona Clark’s iconic 1975 GoGirls collection for just 11 receipts, archival copies of Anne Shelton’s Red Eye book for 10 receipts, or a vintage Leo O’Malley’s suit.
Set up by the Karangahape Business Association, the store will accept receipts made for any purchase in the Karangahape neighbourhood* from Thursday, September 11.
